The sculpture is made by cutting or abrading a block of material.

Additive

The sculpture is made by adding more material to the work. Lost wax casting is a method where wax covers a clay mold, and is itself covered by clay; the wax is melted out, and bronze is poured in, making the finished product once the outer clay is gone.
